Upgrade standalone base ArcGIS Enterprise using Chef automation

On Windows, upgrade standalone base ArcGIS Enterprise using Chef automation.

  1. Login to the EC2 instance.
  2. Download and install Chef client 13 or 14 (If a previous version of Chef Client already exists, update it to either version 13 or 14).
  3. Upload the 10.7.1 installation setup archive files to a folder, e.g. C:\temp folder.
    • Web_Adaptor_for_Microsoft_IIS_1071_169690.exe
    • Portal_for_ArcGIS_Windows_1071_169688.exe
    • ArcGIS_Server_Windows_1071_169677.exe
    • ArcGIS_DataStore_Windows_1071_169689.exe
    • ArcGIS_Web_Styles_Windows_1071_170272.exe
  4. Obtain Portal for ArcGIS 10.7 authorization (.json file) and ArcGIS Server 10.7 authorization files if you are upgrading from 10.6.1 or older version.
  5. Download the ArcGIS Cookbook version 3.4.0 to the EC2 instance; unzip it; copy over cookbooks folder inside it to replace the existing C:\chef\cookbooks folder.
  6. Using a text editor, open the C:\Chef\node.json file and modify the following parameters, like the sample base_enterprise_allinone_windows.json file.
    • Update the node['arcgis']['version'] to 10.7.1.
    • Update node['arcgis']['portal']['authorization_file'] for the new Portal for ArcGIS license files.
    • Update node['arcgis']['server']['authorization_file'] for the new ArcGIS Server authorization file.
    • Define node ['arcgis'][repository']['archives'] for the path to 10.7.1 setups.
    • Add "recipe[arcgis-enterprise::webstyles]" to the runlist if needed.
  7. Open a command line windows as administrator, run

    chef-solo -j c:\chef\base_enterprise_allinone_windows.json
